TAB Members: Richard Castro, Moises Garcia, Melanie Joaquin, Savannah Lagamy, Sarah Little, Jie Ying Mei, Jordan Merizalde, and Isabelle Montesinos

The 2013–14 Teen Advisory Board created a series of personal audio narratives entitled A Journey To Noguchi with the help of Antenna Lab, a company that produces audio material for cultural institutions. During this project, TAB explored how museums communicate with visitors, and what they wanted to communicate about The Noguchi Museum to their peers. A Journey To Noguchi captures the members’ personal interpretations of the word “journey” in relationship with the Museum. TAB participated in a workshop with Radio Rookies of the New York City Public Radio to learn about how they could record their own stories. They also met with other teens in the organization to hear examples of their audio projects. Members compiled audio from the sounds of their everyday lives and interviews to make four projects on the theme of “journey,” titled Characteristics, m&m, Serenity, and Slide Mantra. These projects ranged from sounds of the streets and subway to narrative and informational pieces, reflecting each TAB member’s unique take on Noguchi’s work. TAB celebrated their project at the Teen Event which they organized at The Noguchi Museum and distributed postcards with QR codes that connected to the project’s webpage: https://ajourneytonoguchi.wordpress.com/. TAB members also attended activities and site visits with cultural institutions in the city such as the New Museum of Contemporary Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, and MoMA PS1, and met with teen members of other museum programs. In meetings throughout the year, TAB explored Noguchi’s work and reflected on how to strengthen the Museum’s mission through their project.
