Family Workshop with Leilehua Lanzilotti

Sunday, June 16, 2024
10:30 am–12 pm
$24 per family / Free for members, Cool Culture, SNAP/EBT

In honor of Toshiko Takaezu’s 102nd birthday, Leilehua Lanzilotti, composer, multimedia artist, and co-curator of Toshiko Takaezu: Worlds Within, joins us for a special family art-making workshop inspired by Takaezu’s ceramic closed forms. Lanzilotti will guide families through the physicality of sound in Takaezu’s works, and families will create their own rattles with materials including clay pots, metal cans, and paper bags to explore the interiority, texture, and sound of familiar household items.

This program is recommended for families with children ages 5–11 years old. It will take place in the Garden and Education Studio (Level C).

Leilehua Lanzilotti is a Kanaka Maoli composer, multimedia artist, curator, scholar, and educator. By world-building through multimedia installation works and nontraditional concert experiences/musical interventions, Lanzilotti’s works activate imagination around new paths forward in language sovereignty, water sovereignty, land stewardship, and respect. Play and curiosity are important elements in engaging with sound in this way, as explored through this workshop. leilehualanzilotti.com
