Study for a Waterfall

1961
Granite
Studies have been made for a fountain at the John Hancock Insurance Company in Chicago with the thought of a well with deep, broken flutings which would be constructed with stacked and very rough stones. To enhance the violence of water flow, a waterfall. It was a fine idea for a fountain, but it was refused. In disappointment, I carried the idea over into several sculptures.
