Indian Dancer

1965 - 1966
Granite
I became acquainted with Mannari granite, which is quarried near Okayama, in making the waterfall for UNESCO in 1956. The pink granite that is found in the hills around there aged well and continued as a source of new work with Indian Dancer. I was reminded of Balasaraswati, the great dancer of Bharata Ntyam, whom I saw in Madras in 1949. With time, Indian Dancer has also gained that authority which was so characteristic of her.
