40th Anniversary Celebration

Sunday, May 11, 2025
11 am–6 pm

On May 11, celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Noguchi Museum with drop-in multilingual public tours, art-making activities, and a musical performance.

Events Schedule

11 am–12 pm: Public Tour in English
Educator-led public tours provide an introduction to the life and work of Isamu Noguchi, exploring highlights in Against Time: The Noguchi Museum 40th Anniversary Reinstallation. Visitors will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis as capacity allows.

12–3 pm: Gallery Kit
Visitors of all ages are invited to pick up drawing materials from our educators and explore Isamu Noguchi’s vision of the Museum as a place for community and reflection. Discover personal resonances within the Museum through art-making in the galleries and create a commemorative artwork to share with someone special in your life.

2–3 pm: Public Tours in English and Spanish

3–4 pm: Public Tour in Japanese

4–4:30 pm: Taiko Drumming Performance
Barbara Merjan and Fumi Tanakadate of the Kaoru Watanabe Taiko Center offer a musical journey through the shifting moods of spring. Using the resonant pulse of taiko drums, their performance blends tradition and invention—inviting moments of quiet reflection, joyful awakening, and timeless celebration.

All Day: Areas of Attention
In this self-guided activity, engage with Isamu Noguchi’s art through philosophical questions, reflective prompts, and the artist’s own words. Activity cards are available in print at the front desk and through the mobile guide on Bloomberg Connects.

Kaoru Watanabe Taiko Center preserves, teaches, and promotes various styles of Japanese contemporary and traditional music, with a focus on the shinobue bamboo flutes and Japanese percussion, including the taiko drum. Part of this mission includes fostering a community of practitioners, scholars, and admirers of Japanese performing arts. Learn more at taikonyc.com
