Socrates x Noguchi Field Guide: Worldbuilding: Plant Terrarium

Saturday, May 18, 2024
11 am–1 pm
At Socrates Sculpture Park (32-01 Vernon Blvd)
Free with advance registration

Connect with nature through a series of experimental art-making workshops led by Noguchi Educators at nearby Socrates Sculpture Park. These workshops are free and open to all ages. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is highly recommended, with a limited number of walk-up spots available. All participants will be given a free pass to visit The Noguchi Museum after the program.

On Saturday, May 18, join Noguchi Educator Sol Aramendi for a workshop using natural materials such as soil, air plants, and succulents to build your own world inside a glass jar terrarium. Participants will look at environmental installations by artists Isamu Noguchi and Toshiko Takaezu to inspire their creations.

Sol Aramendi is a socially engaged artist working with immigrant communities throughout New York City. Her participatory practice promotes change around fairer labor and immigration conditions. She is the founder of Project Luz, a nomadic program that uses art as a tool of empowerment. Project Luz has taken place at The Noguchi Museum since 2011.
