Archives Deep Dive: Noguchi in Harlem

Tuesday, May 5, 2020
8 pm–9 pm
Free

In his mid-twenties, Isamu Noguchi was a regular patron at Harlem clubs and speakeasies where he mingled with prominent African American artists and performers. A portrait bust of Gladys Bentley, a female drag performer (1929), and a sculpture titled Black Boy (c. 1934) were among Noguchi’s works created during this period. Join a Noguchi Museum Educator in an interactive virtual learning program exploring these early works, and consider questions of cultural appreciation and appropriation.

Archives Deep Dive is an interactive virtual learning program for adults, designed to explore projects, themes, and topics related to the art and life of Isamu Noguchi. Use The Noguchi Museum Archives as a source of inspiration to create connections through shared stories and group discussion.

This free program is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Space is limited and advance registration is required. All participants will be sent a link to participate through the Zoom platform. All program times listed are EDT (Eastern Daylight Time).
