The basalt I get from Miyagi-ken near Sendai is called “Doro Kaburi,” meaning covered with mud. It is found in the hills imbedded in the earth. When I came upon it, it was being split on the spot into triangular shapes for wall building. The hidden brilliance of the heart contrasts with equal beauty nature’s coating.
