This Place

1968
Granite
A landscape in a landscape. For years This Place was in my garden in Japan facing the “rōka,” or veranda. When the piece was first installed there, the moss had not yet taken hold of the place and there was still some grass outside the bamboo grove. Eventually, in the interstices of This Place some weeds grew quite tall.

Related to This Place was the first version of Ground Wind, which is about twelve feet long. It too was in my garden in Japan, where it now remains alone.
