Peking Brush Drawing

Peking Brush Drawing

1930
Medium, Paper
My house in Peking was on Ta Yang Mao Hutung, 18. My rickshaw boy would go out and bring back girls off the street to pose for me. Drawing them, I came to know the people as well as I did the life of the city on all levels. I felt confident that I could maintain myself as such an artist. My cook was my chief critic–the only one, I believed.
