Photo Collage: Your Story

Tuesdays, January 17 through March 7, 2017, 10 am–12 pm

The Noguchi Museum, in partnership with Project Luz, is offering a free Spanish-language photography program for adults (16 and older) of all levels. Artist Sol Aramendi, founder of Project Luz, will guide students in learning introductory photo techniques and reflections, exploring the stories of their lives.

This year’s photography program will introduce participants to Isamu Noguchi’s life and work, focusing on the exhibition Self-Interned, 1942: Noguchi in Poston War Relocation Center. As a resident of New York, Isamu Noguchi wasn’t subject to internment, but he chose to enter the Poston War Relocation Center during the outbreak of World War II with hopes of contributing something positive to the community. Inspired by Noguchi’s life story, participants will share their stories photographing in the galleries and on assignment, and experimenting with photo collage in the Museum’s studio. The program will culminate with an exhibition of participants’ artwork in the Museum’s education center.

Participating students are expected to attend all sessions and complete weekly photography assignments. Participants will need to bring their own cameras and notebook.

Register by emailing [email protected]. Space is limited, and priority will be given to new students.
