Hands-On at Noguchi | Carve and Combine: Working with Balsa Wood

Saturday, January 20, 2018 - 1:00pm - 5:00pm

In the 1960s, Uruguayan-born artist Gonzalo Fonseca (1922–97) left painting behind for carving sculpture in wood, cement and stone. In the special exhibition The Sculpture of Gonzalo Fonseca, we see the transition in his work from relief to freestanding sculpture. Spend time discussing and investigating Fonseca’s wood assemblages, and then learn basic woodworking techniques in the studio. Carve and combine balsa wood and make your own sculpture.

Previous experience is not necessary. Space is limited and advance registration is required. Ages 18 and older. $10 members, $20 non-members. Program fee includes full admission to the Museum.
