Isamu Noguchi in the Rijksmuseum Gardens

Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, Netherlands
May 28, 2025 – October 26, 2025

Featuring more 30 artworks on loan from The Noguchi Museum, this exhibition at the Rijksmuseum brings together a selection of Isamu Noguchi’s Akari, bronze, ceramic, and stone sculptures.

Discover one of Noguchi’s iconic play sculptures, along with a selection of stone and bronze works in the free outdoor garden. Inside the museum, a ‘cloud’ of Noguchi’s Akari lamps hang from the atrium, while in the nearby Asian Pavilion, a group of ceramic works from the 1950s is presented. On display in the museum’s Room from an Amsterdam Canal House is a rare chess table Noguchi designed for the 1944 exhibition The Imagery of Chess.

Isamu Noguchi in the Rijksmuseum Gardens is the 12th exhibition in the annual series of free outdoor shows at the Rijksmuseum.

This exhibition takes place in a milestone year for The Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum, New York, celebrating its 40th anniversary. Through ongoing programming, the Museum promotes creative exploration and reflection around the enduring legacy of Isamu Noguchi.
