Bronze model for Contoured Playground by Isamu Noguchi

Contoured Playground

1941 (cast 1963)
Edition, Metal
Contoured Playground was made in response to a statement by an assistant to Robert Moses, a Mr. Mulholland, that the city might build a playground in Central Park if it received a proposal that it was sure contained no elements that might cause injury to anyone. A test of this possibility was avoided by the imminence of war.
Original Noguchi Collection

The Noguchi Museum gives thanks to the many talented photographers who have documented Isamu Noguchi’s works, particularly Kevin Noble, who has photographed the Museum’s collection for decades, and Shigeo Anzai and Michio Noguchi, whose portraits of the original Museum installations continue to provide inspiration and insight.
