Hands-On at Noguchi | Carve and Combine: Working with Balsa Wood

Sunday, March 27, 2016 - 1:00pm - 5:00pm

Take inspiration from the sculptures and stage pieces made by Isamu Noguchi in the early 1950s and 1960s, and create your own balsa sculpture. Spend time as a group in the Museum's galleries discussing and investigating Noguchi’s artwork, and then learn basic woodworking techniques in the studio. Participants will focus on combining shape, form, and balance while creating their own sculpture.

Hands-On workshops for adults encourage participants to explore their own creativity with materials and processes, while actively making connections between works on view in the Museum's galleries. Previous experience is not necessary. Space is limited and advanced registration is required. The program cost is $8 per participant for materials in addition to Museum admission. This fee is waived for all Noguchi Museum members. To learn more or register, email education@noguchi.org or call 718.204.7088, extension 203. To learn more about membership please click here.
