Artists at Noguchi | Bang on a Can Music Series: Erik Friedlander’s Black Phebe Trio

Sunday, June 10, 2018 - 3:00pm - 4:00pm

This summer’s concert series opens with Black Phebe Trio, comprising NYC-based cellist and composer Erik Friedlander with pianist and accordionist Shoko Nagai and percussionist Satoshi Takeishi. Friedlander describes Black Phebe as his “three trios in one” band. Nagai’s charismatic performance on accordion and piano/keyboards changes the feel of the group depending upon which instrument she’s playing. When she is on accordion the band is a world-music juggernaut playing virtuosic, mixed meter works or sweet folk songs. With Nagai on keyboard, the band is a piano trio or a classical chamber group.

Presented in partnership with Bang on a Can, this innovative performance series is held in the Museum's outdoor sculpture garden. In case of rain or artist's preference, concerts take place in the galleries. Free with Museum admission. Limited seating is available on garden benches and floor mats on a first-come, first-served basis.
