Bird B

Bird B

1958
Greek marble
In the days when I was constantly within the orbit of India and Japan, Greece too was a part of my world. My trips, starting with the Bollingen Foundation Fellowship in 1949, permitted me the luxury of time, inspection, and introspection. Following my first acquaintance with Greece, I would often return on my peregrinations and would acquire marble with the help of the sculptor Michael Tombros. I finished this marble in the workshop of my friend Edison Price and showed it, along with others, at the Stable Gallery in 1959. Bird B is one of the sculptures I retained. It provides a memory of my love for Greece, which I have held since childhood.
