SECOND SUNDAYS at The Noguchi Museum
Dialogues on Art, Architecture and Design Music in the Garden Join us for our spring/summer music series in the Noguchi Museum's Sculpture Garden. Each month will feature a different and innovative musical performance. Sunday, August 14 at 3 p.m. Dominick Farinacci, trumpet, and Adam Birnbaum, piano New and Classic Jazz At 21, Dominick Farinacci has already performed with jazz greats such as Tony Bennett, Warren Vache and Wynton Marsalis. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, he was one of eighteen musicians selected to be part of the inaugural year of The Juilliard School’s Jazz Studies program. While at The Juilliard School, Dominick recorded two records for a Japanese record label (produced by Todd Barkan), has toured Japan with his quartet and has had a considerable amount of additional accomplishments in both the United States and Japan. Dominick has performed with numerous ensembles and at festivals across the country, including Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Jazz at Lincoln Center and The Detroit International Jazz Festival. In 2003, Dominick won first prize at the Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Competition. The 2004 Cole Porter fellow of the American Pianists Association, Adam Birnbaum began his musical training at the New England Conservatory of Music's Preparatory School, where he studied music theory, chamber music, and classical and jazz performance. An active performer in jazz and classical music, Adam has won numerous awards and honors. He has been a featured soloist in the Rockport Chamber Music Festival, and was named "Outstanding College Rhythm Section Performer" at the 2000 Reno Jazz Festival. In addition to being an accomplished musician, Adam is also a composer. In October 2002, Jazziz magazine featured his song "Dealing" in their monthly "Jazziz on Disc." "Welcome to Gotham," a commissioned composition for big band, was premiered by Jazz Band Classic at Carnegie Hall in June 2003. Adam has appeared on numerous recordings, including 2 records with Dominick Farinacci. About Music in the Garden Isamu Noguchi’s life was one of exploration and innovation: one that crossed cultures, defying the definitions of location, time and medium. Music in the Garden brings together musicians whose work embraces this spirit and the cultural diversity of Noguchi’s life and travels together with his rich collection of artwork. Rather than be seen as solely performance, Music in the Garden is a means of complementing the visitor’s experience of the artwork and space of the Museum.
