Geologist Sidney Horenstein leads a tour of The Noguchi Museum, looking at the artwork through an unusual lens—the basalt, obsidian, granite, marble, and other stones that serve as the medium of many of Isamu Noguchi's work.
Sidney Horenstein is a geologist and Environmental Educator emeritus at the American Museum of Natural History. He was an adjunct lecturer at Hunter College, CUNY, in the Geology and Geography Department from 1962–86. Mr. Horenstein is currently a building-stone consultant and leads local field trips for various organizations related to the geology of the New York area. He is also on the editorial board of the journal Evolution: Outreach and Education where he writes a column about paleontology. Recent publications include Inwood Hill Park and Isham Parks: Geology, Geography and History and New York City Mastodons: Big Apple Tusks.
