The Noguchi Museum is seeking a qualified individual for the part-time Research Assistant position, working with the Managing Editor of The Isamu Noguchi Catalogue Raisonné (INCR). The INCR is the authoritative listing of the artistic practice of Isamu Noguchi, and is a project of the Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum (INFGM). The focus of this research position will be the exhibition history of Noguchi’s artwork, which includes ongoing research into some 2,000-plus exhibition entries. Noguchi’s artistic career spanned nearly six decades of artistic exploration from when he began exhibiting his work in the early 1920s to his death in 1988.

The Research Assistant reports directly to the Managing Editor of The Isamu Noguchi Catalogue Raisonné. This position works closely with the Museum Archivist and curatorial department.

The position is part-time located at The Noguchi Museum in Long Island City, Queens. The position requires a commitment of a minimum of 2 days a week (16 hours/week), for a duration of six (6) months. The compensation is an hourly rate of $15 per hour. Hours will be full days, 9 am–5 pm, ideally on Thursday and Friday. If that is not possible, please indicate your availability in your cover letter. An immediate start is preferred.

About the Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum

The Noguchi Museum – chartered as The Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum – was founded and designed by the acclaimed Japanese-American artist Isamu Noguchi (1904-1988) for the display of his life’s work. Opened in 1985 and located in the vibrant neighborhood of Long Island City, Queens, the Museum is housed in a converted industrial building and is itself considered to be one of Noguchi’s greatest works. Today, the mission of the Museum is to advance the understanding and appreciation of Noguchi’s art and legacy. It manages the world’s most extensive collection of Noguchi’s sculptures, works on paper, architectural models, and designs, in addition to his complete archives. Through its rich collection, exhibitions, and programming, the Museum facilitates scholarship and learning for audiences of all ages and backgrounds.


• Organizing existing exhibition records located within the digital catalogue raisonné.
• Confirming the accurate transfer of exhibition records data from our extant platform (TMS) to our current platform (Collective Access).
• Using both the INFGM’s own archives as well as any necessary outside resources, the research assistant will contribute to this valuable ongoing research.


• Candidates must be highly organized and detail-oriented.
• An interest in art historical research and archival work, ideally having studied art history and/or library science.
• Candidates must possess excellent communication skills, strong writing skills, and word-processing skills on a PC-platform.
• Additional experience with TMS, Collective Access, and Photoshop is a plus.
• Bachelors in a related field is required, though MA or MLS preferred.
