The Merchandising Accounts Coordinator works in the Museum’s warehouse distribution center for Isamu Noguchi’s Akari light sculptures. This position is integral to the Museum’s retail operation, with sales experience and customer service in arts and design as vital skills for the position. As a member of the merchandising and design department, the Merchandising Accounts Coordinator is charged with overseeing Akari light sculpture sales with the Museum’s wholesale and trade program members, as well as updating and enforcing the established terms per program, and providing all necessary content and materials for wholesale program members. This position will work to increase sales of Akari light sculptures through developing relationships with our retailers and trade program members. The Merchandising Accounts Coordinator reports directly to the Manager of Merchandising and Design. This position works closely with the Shipping Manager, part-time Merchandising Assistant and Shop Sales Associates, Archivist, and Manager of Digital Communications and Graphic Design.

About the Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum

The Noguchi Museum – chartered as The Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum – was founded and designed by the acclaimed Japanese-American artist Isamu Noguchi (1904-1988) for the display of his life’s work. Opened in 1985 and located in the vibrant neighborhood of Long Island City, Queens, the Museum is housed in a converted industrial building and is itself considered to be one of Noguchi’s greatest works. Today, the mission of the Museum is to advance the understanding and appreciation of Noguchi’s art and legacy. It manages the world’s most extensive collection of Noguchi’s sculptures, works on paper, architectural models, and designs, in addition to his complete archives. Through its rich collection, exhibitions, and programming, the Museum facilitates scholarship and learning for audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

Responsibilities

● Processes wholesale and trade Akari light sculpture orders, giving appropriate lead times to clients when applicable, and maintaining correspondence with clients throughout the order process. When backorders are necessary, oversees their completion.

● Provides background information to existing and potential wholesale and trade clients interested in purchasing Akari light sculpture and other Noguchi designs, and is well-versed in Noguchi’s designs and work, as well as product inventory, price points, and product information.

● Implements and enforces wholesale and trade program terms through updating new and potential clients with current sales terms. When necessary, discusses any issues that clients may have with the terms with Manager of Merchandising and Design.

● Develops client relationships and maintains an orderly customer profile for each client.

● Develops regular eblasts related to product stock information, terms, and updates for wholesale customers.

● Communicates stock needs on special orders and backorders to the Manager of Merchandising and Design in order to help maintain the inventory and fulfill orders timely.

● Participates in bi-annual physical inventory.

● As needed, works with Manager of Merchandising and Design, Shipping Manager and Merchandising Assistant:

     o Assists on online store eblasts.
     o Assists on physically receiving merchandise, including counting physical versus the packing slip and reporting any discrepancies to the Manager of Merchandising and Design. 
     o Packaging small orders, including creating UPS shipping and return label; and receiving deliveries.
     o Assists with additional department projects and administrative tasks.

Requirements

● Two years sales experience in furniture or lighting design.

● Self-motivated, passionate about art and design retail.

● Ability to work independently, and has careful attention to detail.

● Experience with credit card transactions and security.

● Experience with retail operational platforms.

● Knowledge of QuickBooks and specifically QuickBooks Enterprise plus.

● Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.

● Demonstrated skills using Microsoft Office, especially with Word and Excel.

● Ability to lift 20 pounds.

 

The Merchandising Accounts Coordinator position is full-time located in The Noguchi Museum in Long Island City, Queens. Hours will be 5 days a week, 9am–5pm, Monday– Friday.
